Re: Marina Slip Blues

I would agree, but with how my motor is situated, I would have to raise the control arm of the motor so that it will clear the port side, but then in the vertical position, its nearly impossible to steer with it. Maybe the motor is situated in the wrong position, but as is, there just isn't any clea...

Re: shear pins for kick up rudder

As it happens, I came across some on eBay tonight... might want to contact them to see if they have what you need?

Marina Slip Blues

After a layoff with a broken arm, I was finally able to get my '93 Mac 26S into the water a couple of times, and to maximize my sailing for the rest of the summer, I rented a slip for a month. This was my first experience using a slip, which is located in a smaller (tight) marina. My problem was not...

Re: shear pins for kick up rudder

Plastic toilet bolts have worked fine for me (93 Mac 26S). They might be a little smaller, but if you'll attache the threaded bolt that comes with them, they will stay secure.

Re: Sagging Swing Keel

The previous owner had a rigged line to the cockpit allowing the keel to be raised and lowered from there. The rope can be pulled as hard as it can and yet the keel is still extended about 6 inches. It releases fine, once in the water, but will not raise all the way even though the rope is pulled in...

Sagging Swing Keel

On my second time out with my '93 26S, I had a hard time getting the boat off of the trailer, as the swing keel is sagging onto the trailer with about 6 inches of it exposed. When I tried to slide the boat off, the keel was hitting part of the trailer which prevented it from going any further. What ...

Re: Damaged Mast Foot 26S

That's exactly what it looked like. Very helpful - is this an immediate / emergency fix or can it wait to become a winter project?

Re: Adding a mast raising system to a 1993 26S

There is nothing high tech about it and could easily be made. You only attach the........ ................... side stays (baby stays--two center arrows in the picture above) while actually raising the mast, but you probably know that, Hey Sum, Do your 'baby stays' remain taught and secure through t...

Damaged Mast Foot 26S

In stepping the mast on my 1993 Mac 26S, I noticed that the mast foot had been bent at the front of it. Once I got it raised and in place with the mast raising system, I attaced the gin pole to the mast instead of laying it flat on the deck. From marks on the mast, it appeared that the previous owne...

Re: Outboards in Salt Water Question.....

We just ordered our new outboard yesterday from onlineoutboards, a 9.8 HP Tohatsu with electric start and the ultra long shaft. Sum, I'm looking at getting the same motor and was wanting to get your input on what you're getting: 1-Why the ultra-long shaft (for the ocean?) and will this affect your ...

one note of warning tho.......

I did run into a johnson lower unit on a 6 that had so much magnesium in the base metal aluminum that I was pretty much unsuccessful welding it. (the magnesium caught fire) Those should be epoxied only.
Will do.
