Re: BWY Steering Quick Disconnect
I just use the factory disconnect with no problems. It's simple and cheap.
I did modify it to use a "quick disconnect pin" instead of a bolt and nut for the engine attach. It's really quick and it will not fail. It takes less than a minute to attach or detach.

Re: Mast Gate
the sail stop may work for this configuration. The problem can be that the sail stop keep the sail too high and you cannot get the sail cover on it. I believe these types of slots are lower on the mast alleviating this problem.
Sail stops are a frequent offering to Davy Jones!

Not a fan of the sock. I moved to sunbrella on my jib - life is better!
Which means I have a sock sitting around gathering dust. Let me know if you would like to enjoy the misery that is the "sock".

- West Marine boat soap for general cleaning - Starbright for the non-skid No complaints in two years and my boat is kept in a slip in Florida. The "BLACK STRIPES" are a constant source of effort. I use a light 3M Compound with Wax and it works very well (by hand). With my new Shurehold Bu...

Could you post a picture of your mounting and spacers?fishheadbarandgrill wrote:I installed the BWY pedestal guard on my 2007 M. Comes with Bolts and 2 spacers so you can get a straight vertical alignment. It's plenty strong.

Re: Steering slack
I think that the steering system is not linear in its feel and leads one to believe there is more slop than exists. The challenge is that many expect the same experience as in a car - boats are much slower to react to input. So they end up cranking the wheel back and forth making an "S" li...

Just not appropriate for this application.
Making it stick would be nearly impossible and the critters would absolutely love all the nooks and crannies!

Re: Where do I attach lazy jacks on the mast?
BWY does sell a plate that covers the slot in the mast and I use it on my 26M. It's a very good solution that costs very little and requires two small holes to be drilled. Tried the sail stoppers and they are now in Davy Jones locker - they really sucked. :) Tried the bungie, not really an effective...

Re: Genoa Sunbrella add-on vs sock cover
Keep my boat in a slip and found the sock a PITA! I'd be glad to sell it to you cheap if you want it. It flapped like mad in the wind rubbing on the sail and tearing itself apart. Happiness is Sunbrella sewn onto the sail. No issues with light air and it's so nice to pull a halyard to roll it up and...
