Installing propane on a boat
I am considering mounting a propane tank on the back (or maybe even somewhere inside although probably not for safety reasons) of our :macx:. It seems clear you need a propane and CO alarms, as well as a sensor to automatically shut off the propane if propane is detected in the air inside the boat. ...

Re: BF50 max speed 9MPH no matter what
I got the original stainless prop cleaned up (really just surface tarnish, I didn't think it would help) and put it back on with no difference. I checked the throttle at the carbs to make sure I was getting full travel while using the remote and I am. It sounds like I should try a lower pitch prop a...

Re: BF50 max speed 9MPH no matter what
No wonder I couldn't find my post, I put it in the wrong forum!!!!! (I wonder if I can get the thread moved?) Nevertheless, great information from everyone. I bought the Solas Amita 4 blade 11.8X9 - that was a mistake, I lost a knot! I took my "old" propeller home and cleaned it up, and fo...

Re: Fuel losses due to leaving vent open
If your fuel line is hooked up to the motor shouldn't that allow for expansion/contraction if you close your vent? Also, if your tank is full (which it always should be, after all this is a sailboat, what do you need a motor for? ) wouldn't you expect fuel to leak out while you are sailing (h...

Re: Dead Etec 50
I had the exact same problem on my Honda except I was out on the water. Had the d**n thing in gear, took me several minutes to figure it out (I suppose because up until then I had the habit of having it in nuetral before turning the engine off). I guess I should be glad I wasn't at a ramp. The next ...

BF50 max speed 9MPH no matter what
I hesitate to start another prop thread, but I have an issue (feature, problem, whatever) that I haven't seen before in the forums. My 1996 :macx: with the BF50 maxes out at 9MPH at 5100 RPM WOT pretty much no matter what. Ballast in, pulling a wakeboard (that I built, but that's another thread), or...

Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
You might try forcing water through it backwards. I have also had luck running some messenger wire through it to loosen things up. Also at the back of the rear berth you can take some screws out of the panel across the middle and you'll find the hose underneath. I haven't taken mine out but it didn'...

Re: First time out - exhausted !
First time out, especially on a new boat, is always trying for me - it doesn't make sense, it should be an adventure, right? Our general sailing enjoyment has gone up considerably since we got a slip, even though we have a trailer-sailor!

Where to drill thru-hulls
Maybe I'm terrible at searching, or maybe people don't drill holes in the bottom of their boat. I have two projects (that might start as soon as this weekend if parts arrive). One is to install a "Clipper Duet Instrument" which is a combo depth/speed meter. I have both of these now but nei...

Re: Camping in a trailered Mac?
Two things I can think of are dealing with waste water from the sink (ours goes into the lake) and showers.
I'm thinking of adding an axle to my trailer too, so I'm curious about the experience others have had doing this.

Re: Keel Diving
I beached my Gulf Coast 19 once and slept on it. When I got up the next morning the keel would not go down. It was a 150 lb keel and even beating on it wouldn't let it drop. I had to take the boat out of the water, take the boat off the trailer, and get the keel down that way. It was quite an ordeal.

Re: Can of worms; overpowering a Mac
We just got our 1996 :macx: with a Honda 50HP and have only had it out a few times. So, I'm not going to make any changes any time soon. However, I am thinking I will probably want to upgrade the motor some time in the future. Being in the midwest (Dayton, OH) I'm not sure how to accomplish this. If...

Re: Florida Sailing Grounds???
We spent Christmas week in the keys. We started at Pennekamp State Park, and it was nice and quiet there. You had to motor a bit to get out to the ocean though. Also, as someone else posted it was a ways to get to a bridge to cross to the gulf side. It was very quiet while we were there. We spent th...

Steering link for Honda BF50
My :macx: steering connects to my Honda BF50 using 2 cables; one from each connection point on the rudder. This is a hassle as when you are boarding using the swim ladder it doesn't leave much room for a step without stepping on the cable. On pictures in other posts I've seen a bar that just connect...

Re: 50HP Honda question
This is rather embarassing but since it may help someone else I'll fess up. The person I bought the boat from evidently left the carburator bowl drain plugs (or bleed screws as referred to above) open after winterization. I don't know if this is common practice but I sure didn't think of it. I'm luc...
