Re: Detachable Spreaders - No tools required
I love this! Is there any reason why the spreader bracket can't be left in place? Just remove the spreader bars like you say but leave the bracket on the mast like from factory? Just wondering. I love to do the least amount of work possible.

Re: water ingres by the steering when heeling
I am very pleased with this thread and the information in it. I have a MacM that I bought new in 2008. I have heeled her practically onto her side, and never noticed any water coming in under the aft berth, or from anywhere for that matter. Yes, I have often wondered how the water is kept out of the...

Re: Replacement Trailer Axle for 2008 MacM
Thanks Tom. I called BWY and they no longer are in the axle business. They referred me to local trailer service centers. I have the exact dimensions of the original. I took it off and its sitting on my slab by itself, so I have all the exact measurements. Just need to know where I can get the replac...

Re: Road Warrior trailer has a case of "throat cancer"
I had to replace my tongue after it was only about 5 years old. She takes dunkings every 3 or 4 weeks year-round. I rinsed as best I could but she did rust from the inside- out. She folded up on me while I was home cranking down on the winch after routine service of the winch. I ordered a deeper ste...

Replacement Trailer Axle for 2008 MacM
Good morning Folks, So I just got a quote from the kind folks at TrailerPartsDepot, but I am not sure if they are going to provide me with an axle to meet my needs. It seems to be sourced from a different company and I doubt the attachment points to the trailer frame are going to line up. This means...

Re: Insurance...boatus still the best?
My Boat US policies got transferred to GEICO. I think GEICO bought them out. That may explain the rate hikes. Did this happen to anyone else?

Re: Tacking in high winds
One thing I don't see mentioned is how quickly you should put the helm over when you decide to tack. Too quickly will make the rudders act like a break and stop your momentum. Too slowly and your boat ends up in irons and falls off on the original tack. It took me some practice but I learned the art...

Re: Smartphone for navigation?
March, To answer your question....you do not need a mothership. The gps on your smart phone uses the same satellites in space that are used by all gps units units and chartplotters. It triangulates with the satellites in space. I have also used my phone deep in the everglades where there is no cellu...

Re: Smartphone for navigation?
I have a Samsung smart phone. You do not need cell service for the gps to work on mine. I have used in Mid-Atlantic and mid pacific, it just takes a little longer to triangulate without the help of cell towers. (I tested it mid ocean while on big ships not on my mac LOL) It works fine anywhere in th...

Re: 2008 Aluminum MacM Trailer - Axle Rusting
Thanks for the replies. So last night I crawled under there with a ball peen and did some tapping. Near the wheels where there hasnt been much flaking at all I hear a crisp and resonating ping. Near the center span I hear a solid non resonating thud. It doesnt sound weak....it sounds less pingy (did...

2008 Aluminum MacM Trailer - Axle Rusting
Ahoy Mates! So I have just serviced my trailer again (as I do every year) and am becoming concerned about the rusted steel flaking off of my trailer axle. I took the axle off a couple of years ago and after removing the scary looking flaking bits of rust, I treated the whole thing with very expensiv...

Re: Mac M Daggerboard original dimensions?
Thank you Buell!
That's exactly what I needed to know.
Cheers Mate!
P.S. I measured my trunk and found it to be 72" long.
P.P.S. I am sure there is a joke in here somewhere regarding relationships between daggerboard lengths and other stuff.

Mac M Daggerboard original dimensions?
Well it took me about 7.5 years but I think I finally killed my original daggerboard. I damaged it once about 4 years ago (accidentally drove onto the trailer with 8" of daggerboard down) but managed to repair it. The repair actually lasted until now so I think I did a pretty good job. Here is ...
