Re: Honda carb rebuild
Tam: I have a Honda 50 on my :macx: and I have had difficulty tracking down parts without a dealer as well. For the time you will spend searching, the additional time your boat will be out of commission when you order the wrong part, and the hassle of it all I have found it is better and cheaper ove...

Re: Questions about installing a kicker outboard
Thanks for the comments guys. My swim platform is also on the port side between the motor and rudder- I measured it this weekend and found that the rudder would hit the motor when mounted here. Guess I'll be mounting an adjustable kicker.....Justification to the Admiral "I guess one tow-in woul...

Re: Questions about installing a kicker outboard
Anybody ever used the swim platform bracket on the starboard side of the motor as a mounting bracket for a 3.5 Hp as a backup?

Re: Tilt Motor replacement
UPDATE: You DO have to take the motor off the boat to replace the tilt motor. After removing the motor from the stern brackets you have to take the stern bracket off the boat to slide the tilt motor out. Not a big deal if you are fairly handy and have the ability to lift the motor off the boat. Get ...

Re: How can the Mac 26X sail close hauled better?
Riva, Please let us know how much CB you have down while you are using the main only. I find that I can not tack with more than 8 inches of CB line down, that gives about 33% of board down.... By using partial CB the center of effort moves back enough to make a tack. With full CB and using main onl...

Re: How can the Mac 26X sail close hauled better?
On my 1998 :macx: I have found that sometimes it's best to only use the main. The speed is lower but you can get pretty close to the wind and and have a shorter time to your destination. Last year I remember leaving a 40' hunter going upwind with just my main. He might not have known we were racing ...

Re: Demasting - not fun - too easy to happen
If you are new to this, it is critical that you tape or otherwise protect your ring-dings. Wow! I'm glad to hear no one was hurt. :? I've never lost my forestay pin, but I have had bad experiences with ring dings. Tape or replace the ring dings on the steering linkage as well. The first day out in ...

Re: Tilt Motor replacement
So I have done more research and called a few honda dealers looking for advice/parts. The closest Honda dealer that I could find near Richmond, VA is 70 miles away. Apparently you do have to typically take the motor off the boat to get to the Tilt motor, but if you can support the motor in the air y...

Tilt Motor replacement
I'm gonna have to replace the tilt motor on my 50 HP honda before I get my 1998 :macx: in the water. The tilt motor is rusted up and I'm actually surprised it still works. Anyone had any experience replacing one? According to the SELOC manual for the Honda 50 it looks like I have to take the entire ...

Re: Towing a Dinghy: How much drag?
Thanks for all the great info guys! It never ceases to amaze me how great this website and its members are. It seams like the consensus is that towing a tender will slow the MAC about 1 to 1.5 knots when sailing depending on the setup used. That's really not bad given I will only be using it when I ...

Towing a Dinghy: How much drag?
I have a 1998 :macx: with a 50 HP honda and want to buy a dinghy for my long trips to tangier island in the Chesapeake bay this summer and need some advice about the buying the correct size tender for the job. I don't have a lot to move around so I was thinking about buying a 9' zodiac, but I don't ...

I need a new Mast Cap! Make or buy?
Hey everybody! We have gotten more snow here in Virginia since weather records have been kept so I cannot wait for spring! I was reviewing my 1998 :macx: in storage the other day and noticed that the mast cap has come off. Has anyone tried to make one of these? I looked on BWY, but didn't see anythi...

Re: Upper Chesapeake to Abermarle
Deltaville, where the Rappahannock meets the bay, is a good place to stay. I'm in Urbanna, VA and am planning a trip to Tangier island. Anyone been? Suggestions?
