randy swivel cam cleats

Randy Bill At Boats For Sale sells them made for the x or m. Little expensive but well worth the price and they make life much easier because you can stay back at the wheel sitting and control everything from the helm. Bill is in the memberlist and he responds quickly to your request. Yes you need o...

tacking

I use to sail on the Niagara River where it is sometimes a few hundred yards wide and in a day of sailing I would tack maybe 100 times. I always let the main swing across by itself and use to preset the sheets so I only had to pull on the sheet. Now I have the swivel cam cleats from Bill and they wo...

kooleraire as a boat ac unit?

Going on a trip to the Keys, anybody with knowledge of using this unit. How good is it? How long does the ice last for? Any other suggestions welcome.
Thanks Ken

The Mac keeps on heading to the Keys

Launched out of Fort Myers and sailed out into the Gulf and after setting her up with a furled main and full genoa let her settle into a grove which was heading south. She got into such a grove that I left the helm and sat on the bow for half hour then came back and ate lunch and settled into an aft...

larger winch

My simple solution was to put on a larger winch. The winch pulls the bow right up to the v and stays there no bump needed and I can retrive the mac in less water because of the greater power of the winch. The mac will even winch the mac up with full ballast.

nights

sailing out on Lake Erie one evening a few years ago with the sun setting in the west and a full moon raising on the east sky with a steady breeze blowing, it set the night as we watched the moon raise in the sky. There is a heightned awareness of the sound of water rushing by the back end and the f...

control

Practice all you can and you will get to the point where you can back out of any dock with any current, waves, or winds. Learn to use the motor to control the front and the back with a turn of the motor. I can take the boat and back it out of the dock pivot and put the boat back at the dock same spo...

Punta Rassa boat launch

The Punta Rassa boat launch has a 72 hr max then I guess you would have to renew the ticket. It's 3 dollars a day and you put the money into a machine that gives you a ticket. after you launch you can go on the ICW or out under the Sanibel bridge that opens on the half hour. With no chart I would ta...

supersnorkel

I've got this unit and it is far better than the 12 volt unit because it can be used alone without any attachment to any base. You can take this unit to any waterway without the boat and dive. These unit are a little different than the dive tanks because the air is delivered continuously and breathi...

traveler location

Scott is right about the location, it is on the step over to the cabin. It is a nice ss u bolt that has a ss plate on it. I'll try and get a picture up in a few days. The bail was put on the boom a few inches in front of the step over lip to the companway so the main sheet would be out of the way as...

moved mains mainsheet from the wheel area

I put a new bail on the mains boom foward of the old one to get the mainsheet out of the way of my sun shade. I put a u bolt on the lip of the enterence way to the cabin and tried it out the other day when it was really windy and it worked well. It kept the boom from lifting up and seemed to control...

Bungees are the way to go, I"ll be getting them soon. The reason I didn"t use the motor was because if it was shallow I didn't want to do damage to the prop or lower unit and the more compelling reason was because of the sea conditions with the back end of the boat raising out of the water...

Took a Beating

With 20-30 mph winds I headed out onto the Gulf and began to sail around Sanibel Island down at Fort Myers. Another day in paradise as we say down here, the air temp was 80-84, seas 4 foot building to 7-10 by the end of the day. The wind out of the south made it hard to get around the corner of Sani...
