Re: Identify that boat
Definitely a venture 24, very similar in appearance to venture 17 and 21.

Re: macgregor 25 vs macgregor 26
Hi All this is a very good topic of discussing macgregor sailboats. the classic question of choose your boat... considering your budget , knowledge and real comfort level. Both boats represent the product mainstays of the corporation being its hall of fame winner of swing keel design and the present...

Re: 21 or 22" Venture?
I really like both boats but am happy with a 21 as the chance to buy one in good shape came up. A Cal 21 was the other choice but the owner/seller changed his mind and decided to keep his boat, which led me to focus more on the 1985 Mac21 that was still available to buy. 21's and 22's are pretty rar...

Re: V-22 hull # 1001, 1968? cant find a vin breakdown.
Newinertia's boat is a 21 and looks exactly as my Macgregor 21. the 22 is a foot longer and 6 inches wider, and over 600lbs heavier with a beefier look to it plus a pop top roof over the cabin. the 21's never had a pop top roof at all. here in Ontario we don't really register our boats but only the ...

Re: V-22 hull # 1001, 1968? cant find a vin breakdown.
Hi there Newinertia, that is one nice looking Macgregor 21 sailboat. 21 not a 22. I would not bother with vin numbers, they are located on the starboard transom side but only needed for state registration etc. go ahead and maintain that beautiful sailboat. fix er up. its well worth it. would be glad...

Re: First thoughts on 26X vs. Siren 17
Here in Ontario there are a lot of Sirens around and I must say Im not impressed. One must love his sailboat and this includes nice lines and a good looking boat which will also by the way, sail well. the Siren is an ugly duckling and there is no comparison with a 26X. the 26X has a modern power yac...

Re: Rudder Drawing for 222
I think it best to restore an original
v222 rudder or find a beat up one to
fix up, since buying Idasailor means that
your keeping the boat long term.
It would not repay itself upon sale of
yoour boat.
just plain economics.

Re: 26X with smaller motor/sailing ability
Well those are interesting replies and one can come to terms with his own requirements. I guess the jury says ... maintain the larger motor of 50hp and more and utilize the motorsailor advantage of the Mac 26X or M. Its a hybrid. And would like to wish all the Mac sailors on this site a very Merry C...

Re: I hate the rudder
The Hunter 21 daysailor has a dagger rudder
design. something similar would work well
on a Mac/venture 21 and 22. I would go for
a Idasailor rudder instead and save yourself
a lot of hassles. At 869.00 or around there
its a pricey addition to any boat.

Re: I hate the rudder
Hi everyone On my Mac 21 i use the stock rudder and lock it down with a bolt and wingnut. Of course this is good for only deep water sailing and one must lean over the transom and reach down to install the lockdown bolt but the result is a good performing rudder. It also has a small hole near the bo...

Re: Just bought Venture 22 - Need Help
If the boat has a pop top, dinette table and head forward of the dinette area, then its a V22 or M22. Practise rigging your boat in your driveway or wherever there is space and some privacy so you can get familiar with its rigging and equipment. best of luck in your new hobby. it offers a lifetime o...

Re: 26X with smaller motor/sailing ability
thanks for the informative replies. I have seen X's in the Port Credit area, one with a 40 Johnson, another for sale some time ago with a 15 merc. etc. I think its not uncommon to find these boats with smaller motors perhaps temporary motors. Plus ,not having much ability to dump the ballast tanks w...

26X with smaller motor/sailing ability
Hi wanted to post a question re. a smaller engine on a powersailor inorder to reduce weight and improve sailing ability. I am thinking of an X or M in the future and with tweaking a sailplan for optimum performance to weather and upwind, having a 25hp Merc on the back for motoring safety without pla...

Re: Outboard Power for Passage on Intracoastal
Night sailor is the book to get then.
will look for it.
Bridges are a sure thing to deal with on the
intracoastal waterway but how about some
good motels, accomodation, marinas etc.
I assume there are plenty but any particular
good recommendations?
thankyou all.
