Towing Canoes:

I don't know about Kayaks but: When towing a canoe use a short painter. When a longer one is used the canoe would wander and eventually turn over.......of course dumping whatever you left in there. Live and learn. :D

Re: Newby-Looking to buy!! any tips or suggestions?

:D Good point Kelley, Consider buying a real powerboat and a faster sailboat ! A whaler and a sailboat with with decent Portsmouth/PHRF rating. You might be happier ! MAC Dand S and Mac 25 as well as many, many others to consider ! "WHEN TWO SAILBOATS MEET.........THERE IS ALWAYS A RACE !"...

Re: Newby-Looking to buy!! any tips or suggestions?

This is my take on blisters. Almost all blisters while not structural will slow a sailboat down. If there are blisters now, there will be more to come....unless the boat is stored out of water on non sailing days. Repair and prevention is either very time consuming or expensive if someone else does ...

Re: Newby-Looking to buy!! any tips or suggestions?

Avoid a boat with blisters, mostly found in first 6 inches deep of waterline, How does the bottom and bottom paint look ? check out rust on trailer, make sure it is travel worthy condition of cushions, sails, and motor. ask for a test sail, and put the motor and sails to work. check condition of the...

Re: Mac comparisons

If you like the Macgregor D sailing performance and don't care about big motor advantages of the x or M , then also consider an S2 7.9 with a PHRF of 168 ! :D It also has better headroom than Mac D and S and sleeps 4 with ease, has a spacious cockpit and rides low on the trailer like the MACs . Rais...

Re: Need advice – main or jib?

I used to have an :macx: . I have found that it sailed easily in higher winds with just the genoa. In fact it seemed to tack easier than just the main alone. Quite comforting knowing I could furl in some more if need be without leaving the cockpit......compared to reefing a main. But on the other ha...

Re: So why is the mac 26 x or m not a good sailer

Check out the Portsmouth numbers found on the US sailing website ! http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/tables06/tables06kb.asp Portsmouth numbers are based on reported actual races and results : not numbers assigned by a commitee based on local Lack of knowledge (PHRF). you will find PHRF numbers in...

Re: A liitle Feedback with respect to the MAC Bump

I would get a speed of about 30 miles per hour then apply more and more brake pressure till the boat sprang forward. This seemed better to get just the right of amount of enertia to move the boat without over doing it. I would let off the brake as soon as I felt the boat move. Liquid detergent does ...

Re: New To Me -- Probably Old Hat to You

8) The MAC's are all great boats. For a new boat: Much boat for the money. That being said, There is no perfect boat, so you have to find the one that fits your purpose the best. Older classic macs: good sailers , small outboard, low headroom MAC x and M: just ok sailer, large outboard (great speed ...

Re: Another Mac clone

:D Tiarra Yachts is going to make a limited reproduction run of its S2 7.9 's/ a 26 foot trailerable fast sailboat. Draft of around 14 inches with dagger board up. Sits low in the trailer and launches/retrieves like macgreggors ! The mast is just as easy. Pros: This is a one-design Cruiser/racer : f...
