Re: mast hound angle question
Sum...no, you have pointed out the toggle allows two degrees of freedom of swage motion where the absence of the toggle only allows one...critical difference. Sorry for reviving this thread and being off-topic, but I am installing CDI FF2 and doing research of whether to use toggle to attach stay t...

Re: CDI FF2 Install Question
Mine attaches the same as yours at the top of the mast and the bottom has a threaded end at the bottom that goes into one end of the turnbuckle. It just says in many places in the CDI manual that you must use toggles on both ends of stay to prevent fatigue. But if everyone attaches stay to mast the...

CDI FF2 Install Question
I ordered RF from CDI for my 2009 M and still waiting on it. I decided to upgrade forestay as well and bought 5/32 stay from BWY with new turnbuckle. I downloaded manual from CDI and it says that I need two toggles – one attached to the turnbuckle like I currently have and second one attached to the...

Re: Your comments on 150 Genoa
I have 100% hank on stock jib and stock main. Last year on Lake Erie most of the times it was either dead calm or winds above 15 knots. So I either motored or used reefed main with the jib. And I was thinking about buying a hank on storm jib. This year 80% of the time we are getting light (5 – 10) k...

Re: How far do you heel your boat.
I peg mine at 45 deg quite often; not because I want to but a gust will do that. The admiral and I had the boat out for the first time this season on Lake Francis Case. It was a steady 20+ knots and gusting to 30 knots and 4 foot swells. We couldn't figure out why we couldn't handle the boat. It ju...

Re: Storm Jib
The jib heels the boat more than the main. I have no doubt about this through thousands of miles under the Mac hull, oftentimes in reefing conditions. Going back to the first sentence of this; I can sail in 20 kts with full main and 1/3 to 1/2 size jib with good balance, going upwind with about 25 ...

Re: Storm Jib
RussMT, you are right. But unfortunately people who work can’t always go sailing in perfect weather conditions. And summer in Ohio goes by fast. When I have time to enjoy my boat sometimes there is no wind, sometimes it is nice and sometimes it is windy. For me to actually use my boat I can’t be too...

Re: Storm Jib
I went out sailing yesterday in about 18 knots wind. I had stock main reefed and 100% hank-on jib. With both sails let out I often heeled 30+ degrees. The boat can handle it but it was not a combatable ride and not as much control as I wanted. I think a small storm jib will be a great improvement an...

Highlander, thank you for the info! I will measure my 100% jib today and will decide on #1 or #2 option. Thanks again!

Re: Bleach & soap for cleaning deck & hull?
Used bleach & soap on my M this year; worked great! But week later had mildew again on all surfaces parallel to the ground, none on the side of the boat – strange. Don’t know what to do about it. I use hand – held brush on non-skid surfaces , works great.

Re: Newbie question. Need your advice.
As far as batteries it depends on what kind of charger you have and how your charger is connected to your batteries. I have dual output charger connected directly to both batteries bypassing the switch. So I live the switch in OFF position when charging the batteries. You need to see how your charge...

Re: Importance of mast rotation
I have stock washers and at first the mast didn’t rotate. Then I needed to adjust shrouds and lowered the mast by 10 – 15 degrees with mast raising system with boom and sails attached. I used white lithium based grease (actual grease not the spray) and little screwdriver and put the grease between e...

Re: Jiffy Reef/Lazy Jack, New Install: To "tack" or "clew"?
Our X was rigged by BWY, and it always puzzled me why they rig their "'Single-Line Jiffy-Reefing System" with the bitter end of the line, on the aft-end of the boom. I've found that in most cases of reefing, you need to relieve the pressure on the sail-slugs in order for the mainsail to d...
