Ok, it's not a Mac video
I have been busy this winter refitting my "other boat" on Vancouver Island so my usual pointless, long winded Alberta winter posts have been sorely lacking. There is little more I could do to the Mighty Mac to improve or make her more comfortable where we sail her. On the other hand, this ...

Re: To PoliGlow or Not to PoliGlow
Well. I did my 26X with PoliGlow. It still looks good two years later and I feel it was worth it. But it was a huge backbreaking job. I know it took over 40 hours of concentrated hard work to strip the hull and clean it. Then if I'm not mistaken I covered it with at least five coats of the PoliGlow,...

Re: Steering wheel holder
In spite of the hoots of derision from the bungee cord crowd, this works ridiculously well:

Re: Tender is the night...
That's the ever gusty and constantly icy Ghost Lake. I slip out there from Calgary to practice sailing badly. Spend lots of weekends "boat camping". The Okanagan was absolutely great. The water is nearly bathtub warm, big fish swimming near shore, lots of picnic sites ashore to use. Slept ...

Re: Tender is the night...
If you can find a way to launch from your trailer at Sylvan or Gull Lake you don't need a tender and won't have to pull the darn thing behind you wherever you go. We get along fine without one in Alberta http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/Indulgence_photo/MacGregor%20website%20images/IMG_0374....

You saw it here first!
The final photograph in the BVI trip report I posted here appears on
the inside cover of this month's Lattitudes and Attitudes. Pretty cool.

Re: Boat purchase and registration ?
The BC Government monitors boat registrations. If you don't trot on down to Government House on Pandora St they will assess you and send a bill in the mail. I haven't registered my boat in my name yet. The tax bill for the privilege of owning my boat in BC comes to $5,200 (It's not a Mac). I'm not s...

Re: Boat insurance in Alberta
I'm revisiting this thread because I've had some advice and some experience with boat insurance since I posted my original information. I have been told there are numerous outstanding claims with Premier Marine and their track record is the worst in the business. If you want cheap insurance they are...

Re: Question for Salt Water Sailors
Divecoz, My marina buddy, Marvin, pulled this mess out on the dock this summer after one year in the water, Sidney BC in the PNW. Mine has a hefty 15hp Yamaha on the stern so I run it up on the beach every once in a while and scrape the little buggers off. Fortunately my sailboat has very good ablat...

As you can see in the photographs below, bottom paint is really not necessary.

Re: Was I ripped off?
I think it's fairly clear your question is not really so much whether you paid too much for your boat, which you did not, but rather a call for help with a reluctant admiral. I have a suggestion: see if she'd be willing to take sailing lessons with you. The knowledge of good boating skills will tran...

Re: steering geometries between engine and rudders...
My opinion- if you think about rudder function and motor thrust function wouldn't you want the rudders to move through a lesser arc? If the rudders throw all the way over they just stall the boat. The motor on the other hand will provide thrust and control in whatever direction it points. So if the ...

Re: Wine stain
I was nagging at Janet's girl child, and Janet, to be careful and not spill pop/juice in the cockpit during dinner afloat a month ago. Then I proceeded to upend a nearly full glass of radish wine. It looked like there'd been an axe murder in the cockpit! I cleaned it up as best I could, but yes, it ...

Re: Trailer Light Kit -- Looking for Recommendations
Weellll, here in the great white rainy miserable bloody north, I replaced mine with a complete set of submersible lights, wiring and harness from Princess Auto for $19.95. Mind you they were on sail and that's in Canuckbucks, so... $20.53 Americoin. Not fancy, not LED, but will last longer than I'll...
