Re: Lake Dale Hollow, TN

I haven't sailed there, but I have spent a lot of time boating and diving there. I have seen sailboats on it. The wind is going to be light and variable... like it is every where else on the lakes in middle and east Tennessee. Expect to spend most of your time 1-2 knots, with stretches short stretch...

Re: Great sailing evening!

It's a 26 S. The X and M look like they have a lot of freeboard... that can't help any. If it's just not stable, have you gone as far as pulling a drogue, or trailing 50 feet of rode with a life jacket tied to it? If I had to do it for real with a rudder failure, that's the first thing I would do on...

Great sailing evening!

I went out on the lake this evening and spent the whole time with trimming exercises. I locked the tiller centered, and sailed in big 2 mile long figure 8s by sail trim alone. It's my favorite boat exercise.

Re: I FOUND A (BIG) BOAT

The best boat advice I've ever got was when you meet the surveyor at the dock, offer him a $100 tip if he can honestly talk you out of buying it.

Re: Heave to question

When we heave to, I have to use the main and the foresail. The main is trying to drive you one way, the foresail is trying to drive you another, and the boat just wants to follow the helm.

Re: Sea Worthy? Ideas and thoughts

If you "HAD" to sail the carribean, across the atlantic, or around the pacific.....and could make.....say....five mods....what would they be? I have a 26s, and they have a very nice shape for sailing and a good solid hull so I wouldn't worry about that. Mod #1: I'd tear out the entire inn...

Re: Knockdown!

Me too! I didn't panic, but was wondering when the mast might come up. it did slightly, to maybe 60 degrees, but there was just no weather helm, and I kept skidding on the beam. ... Maybe I should lean that Mast back a couple of degrees now though. At 60 degrees I doubt a Mac really has enough cent...

Sorry, I just searched for "polar diagram" and "Velocity Prediction Program". I didn't think about just searching for "polar". :)

Re: Boat Speed at Various Points of Sail

Does anyone have any polar diagrams for Macgregors? I would love to have one for my 26s.
