Re: Genoa Sunbrella add-on vs sock cover
I had the jib sock for my first five years, and it does flap like crazy in the wind, which makes me wonder if there is some chafing going on underneath. I also had my forestay fail near the top thimble in high winds while docked 2 years ago, and I believe the constant vibration caused by the sock ov...

garage storage clearance height?
I am considering modifying a garage to store my Mac26. My Mac is currently slipped, but can someone tell me what overall height would be required for the garage door opening with the mast in the trailer storage position? Also, the garage is 40 ft in length, and I would think that is sufficient for s...

Re: Another forestay failure/mast crash
For what its worth, my forestay failed after 5 years as well, right under the thimble. I too had a jib sock over the jenny for the 5 years, and I noted in high winds there was a lot of flapping and vibration. One night a year and a half ago we got high winds measured at around 50 kts, and our M was ...

Re: Beginner boat?
The 26M was my beginner boat, and that came with ZERO previous boating experience, and we have managed quite well. Depending on your experience, if you haven't sailed, either have an experienced sailor help you learn the basics, or what we did was take a sailing course through a local community coll...

Re: Question on installing a block on M mast
I installed one of these on my 26 M for mainsheet halyard, and works very well. However, I decided to use small ss bolts, washers and locknuts to secure rather than pop rivets, to make sure it will never work loose, and it is a little bit of a PITA to get to, but with the mast down, and a pair of lo...

Re: Air Conditioner - other ideas?
Jim, I did go down this path for the reasons you stated. I too have an M model, and several years ago I bought a 5,000 BTU window unit at the end of the season for about $60. I sit it right on top of the traverler, but you have to be careful to get the right tilt so the condensed water flows away fr...

Re: Thinking of slipping Mac without bottom paint
I slip our Mac (05M, bought it new) in Lake Michigan, I have used the VS721 for the last four years. The water is pretty clean, and I liked the VS721, easy to apply, and slime, etc comes off pretty easy as well. We anchored in shallow water a couple times a year and get underneath and scrub hard wit...

Re: An Outboard for an inflatable.....
Has anyone tried the new Torqeedo self contained electric motor? http://www.torqeedo.com The 801 model is approximately 2 HP and msrp is $1,699, but only weighs 25 lbs including battery, and no cables or gas tanks to mess with. I believe it will last 1-3 hours, depending on how hard it is run, and y...
