Re: MacGregor 25 shower
I've thought about how I would shower on my 23', and the conclusion I came to was either sponge bath or tarp up the stern of my deck and use a hand pumped pressure sprayer. Wish I had more to offer you here. I'm always on the wrong side of ridiculous :D So, don't let me discourage you. Btw, saw the...

Re: How do you take off the boot stripe
I replaced mine. Used a heat gun, carefully to soften the old brittle boot stripe tape. Be careful to not apply too much heat though. Then I wiped it down with acetone prior to applying the new stripe.

Re: Centerboard cable
I replaced my cable with 1/4" low stretch yacht braid. Ran the rope through the same hole on the edge of the centerboard the cable had gone through, and tied a stopper knot in the end, in place of the nut & bolt that was originally there. Here's where the rope comes through the tube under t...

Re: Mast Gate Solution?
Thanks guys. Restless: very nice mod. Was your mast opening originally like this: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?viewimg=1864 This is the other solution that I had in mind but not sure about the removable piece for trailering Sea Wind Sea Wind, can you provide more info about your s...

Re: Possibly buying a Mac 25 and looking for some advice
Inside of the cabin, the ceiling (not sure of nautical terms here :D ) just looks as though it came painted, under the flakes of paint I can seethe weave of fiberglass throughout the cabin. Someone did try to paint over the fakes though, which is pretty funny. I'll have to take a few pictures, it s...

Re: 26 Laz floor dimensions
Not sure what you mean by this, because it's the curvy part of the floor that I'm trying to get the contour of, and anything that starts out straight makes it impossible to match the contour...please 'splain! Okay, here goes. If you don't already have one, get yourself a pencil compass. They usuall...

Re: 26 Laz floor dimensions
I don't have measurements of the floor I currently have in my laz. The one I made has a board that runs not quite the length of the forward bulkhead in there. Just get a scrap piece of plywood, hold it down in there and scribe a line of the contour of the bilge. Do the same with a piece for the aft ...

Re: Possibly buying a Mac 25 and looking for some advice
FWIW I found this posting; All comments are not mine... just thought I would pass it on. Question: We have a 3.8L 98 Ford Windstar that does not have a towing package. If we install a class 3 trailer hitch with load equalizing bars and an aux. transmission fluid cooler, and a brake controller, would...

One more suggestion. You might check out http://forums.macgregor.sailboatowners.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68 I love this site and look for interesting stuff going on here. But it's more popular with the X & M crowd, not a whole lot of older Macgregor/Venture discussion going on here. Right now ther...

Re: Possibly buying a Mac 25 and looking for some advice
You might want to give Star Brite, EZ-ON EZ-OFF a try on the bottom, before you take sand paper to it. When I first got my boat the bottom looked a little like yours. I tried several products, and thought I'd have to sand it off. Then I tried this stuff. Like magic, the hull cleaned up, to a nice sh...

Re: Another sailboat virgin looking to buy 1981 venture 22
In addition to all previous suggestions; Very important to check the swing keel pivot bolt, winch, cable, etc., heard a few stories of them falling off. Very hard to find a replacement. I hear they are great boats! Sounds like a reasonable price, and you can probably get it for even less!

Re: Slug gate
Judging by some of the posts here, I'm not sure everyone is aware of what a slug gate is. If there is a standard unit available from West Marine, I haven't been able to find it, please post a link or a pic. Here's the link to Sum's video of the device he made. Apparently BWY sells one for the X's an...
