I've got a Simrad ap12 and so far (1 season) it works great. It's quite a bit more expensive than the Raymarine Sport Pilot was but I still think it was worth the cost. The only drawback is that it is a bit difficult to install on the M with the stainless support tube and the small steering pedestal...

Try the Simrad AP12 or AP14. It's a tight fit on the 26M with the small steering consol and stainless pedestal, but it is possible.
