Re: Great Loop Preparations in High Gear

Just found this topic string and have loved reading it. I've been kicking around a Great Loop trip for some time now in our 26M, and am in the process of trying to convince my better half that it is something we CAN do. I like the idea of sailing whenever possible, but am guessing there will still b...

What are the expected benefits of installing these on an M26?

Re: daggerboard extension

I've been reading the posts about weighted dagger boards for the last year or two. I finally decided to give it a try, primarily trying to reduce heel to make my wife more comfortable, thus more inclined to sail more often. I bought six 25 pound sacks of #8 shot (shotgun stuff), plugged the bottom h...

Re: Texas Macgregor dealer????

Where can we see a picture of the 70M?
Are there accomodations below, or is it just for going fast around marks?

Re: Running Wires to Masthead

Leon, I think running wires up to the mast top often sounds worse than it really is. Boring through the foam by joining rods of most any kind with the end one having a point for penetrating the foam can be done, even if a bit frustrating. I used small diameter (about 1/4") rods of bamboo taped ...

Re: Project M - Interior Aft Bulkhead

Bob, I can't show the Admiral what you've done, or she'll never see our boat in the same light again. Maybe after retirement I'll attempt some of the great things you've done. What I would really like to take on right now though, is a swinging ladder, to ease berth entry and more importantly, ease e...

Re: Price reduction, E-Tec installed now $6,995

I'll have to check prop size tonight. Is it stamped on the hub?
At WOT I'm generally in the 4700-4800 rpm range. I think it should be around 5500, shouldn't it? I'll have to get out the manual to verify.

Re: Backstay on the M

Leon,
Where did you get the duplicate mast base rotating fitting to put up top? What was ballpark cost?
In addition to the performance benefits your site, I wonder if that might be stable enough (relative to boat axis) now to mount my Rotavectra up there...?

Re: Price reduction, E-Tec installed now $6,995

Does anyone know what diameter and pitch prop MacGregor is installing on their factory installed 60 E-Tecs?
Mine was installed by a second party, and I'm not getting the rev's at WOT that I should. I could play hit and miss, but I'm sure MacG has already done all that.

Re: Current thinking on Autopilot for 26M?

Leon, I saw in your earlier post you installed an ST40 wind system. The Admiral gave me the system awhile back, but I haven't installed it yet. I'm a bit puzzled about where to mount the Rotavecta transducer unit. I'd sure like to put it on the mast top, but that introduces the problem of the rotati...

Re: Has anyone drilled through the mirror?

The mirrors are made of acrylic sheet. It can be drilled with standard twist drills, but you must go thought the material very slowly, especially when breaking through the back surface. To make nice clean holes with no cracking, grind the drill bit cutting edges flat, so they scrape the acrylic, rat...

Re: Steering squeak on 26 M

The clear teflon tube wouldn't show up on a photo of my installation, Jim. I made a pdf of the page from the McMaster-Carr catalog showing the tube, but now can't figure out how to attach it to this message. The tube is a 1" I.D. X 1-1/16 O.D rigid clear teflon sold by McMaster as item number 5...

Re: Steering squeak on 26 M

:macm: If the squeak is from the thru hull location, I'm surprised you haven't heard this before, Leon. My '07 M did it from the start. The oils and sprays only lasted a few hours for me. The motor linkage geometry isn't right for a straight push/pull, and on some points of stroke the SS tube gets f...

I would like to see the string of photos posted by delevi above showing his lines led aft, but all the photo boxes just have a little box with red "x" in the upper left corner. Is there a setting I can change to be able to see the photos?
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer.
