Re: ANCHOR RUST DID I BLOW IT

Yep...most any hardware store. If you don't see it...ask the guys there and tell them your problem. It comes in small bottles -vs- gallon jugs. Your anchor was hot dipped galvanized and where you drilled opened it to bare steel. that cut needs to by protected. The rust spots on your deck now are a r...

Re: ANCHOR RUST DID I BLOW IT

Don't forget to treat the new anchor hole with some "cold" galvanizing paint to help avoid more rust spots in the future. On the removal of rust from gelcoat I have found that the rust removers that are sold at the check-out counter of your local hardware story work great. But do add some ...

Re: Steering Cable Malfunction

Retcoastie, I have had a lot of R&P and Telfex Rotery installs and this is a common problem with both. It is generly caused by trying to make too tight of a bend while installing and that is when the rubber casing is cracked...the end result down the road of time is corroison and then freeze up ...

Re: Injured Admiral, a MacHero, The story must be told

I have had more then my share of "events" this past year. A dismasting , a motor bracket falure and wet motor, and this last weekend I lost the 625 lb. swing keel off my boat. I don't know what they teach in these sailing schools but I think I could open a school for sailors that will give...

Re: Engine "Pee"

You said it begins to pee when you first start it up and then the stream subsides...but the engine is running fine and I assume no overheat alarms are going off. Before I called out the Navy I would check the pee tube for obstructions. Use a small wire or paper clip to probe the tube. We find that m...

DiveCoz,
Did you ever make that trip to Florida this year? If so did you write it up or start a thread somewhere. I would like to read it if one is around somewhere.

Re: Four stroke motor size

The above mentioned trip from Naples to Marathon, Fl. started at 6:30am on Saturday and ended at 8:30am on Sunday for a total of 26 hours. That makes for a very long day.

Re: Four stroke motor size

Any ideas of Gas milage for the 9.8 hp 4 stroke. I wonder how much fuel I would need to make a 50 mile trip. I motor sailed in light winds with my 8hp Nissan from Naples to Marathon, Fl. which is approx. 92 miles adveraging 4.5 knots and used 4 gals of gas. I think if you had two 3 gal. or one 6 ga...

Re: Four stroke motor size

I have the Nissan 8hp /Electric start on my Mac 25 and it will push my boat at hull speed using 3/4 gas. I put it on the motor mount bracket that was on the boat when I got it and it has so much thrust that even though the weight is only 86 lbs. it still causes the mount to flex. I am ordering a bra...

Re: Help Needed! Do I Have A Problem? I'm Not Sure.

From the pictures, it appears that the winch body is cracked. If I am viewing this correctly then just replace the winch. It will be cheaper and take less time then welding and hammering.

In the future you might consider the weight of winter snow and let some tension off when you store the boat.

Re: mast light

I have a Mac 25 and my mast light has a screw on lens. It might help if you give us more information or a picture of the light....just shimmy up the mast and say cheese.

Re: Florida Keys Adventure

The cravice ring was new (3 months) old. It was the one under the CDI Furler that attaches the forestay to the bow chine plate. In hindsight I can only blame myself for not checking the rigging closer before casting off on this trip. I sail the boat two to three times a week and should have taken ti...

Chapter Six We had made the discussion to cast off and make the run to the west coast of Florida across Florida Bay. We had come across in the dark on the way down and had no second thoughts about doing the same going back. Our plan was to get pass Cape Sable and hug the coast to make anchorage aro...

Re: Florida Keys Adventure

Chapter Five When morning came we motored over to Berdine’s dock which was only a few hundred feet from where we were anchored and topped of the ice and walked the dogs. The folks at Berdine’s were very friendly folks and we made several stops there to gas up and walk the dogs. It was easy to come ...
